LifeSafer Interlock is DESIGNED TO FAIL YOU - LifeLock Ignition Interlock

While I%u2019m thankful for many things including my sobriety, I really don%u2019t appreciate feeling compelled to write this review on Thanksgiving morning while my vehicle sits with a LifeSafer device LOCKOUT after yet ANOTHER FALSE POSITIVE FAIL. I%u2019ve read reviews citing %u201Cfaulty device, piece of crap, glitchy product.%u201D I%u2019m absolutely convinced these false positives are no glitch or fault of the LifeSafer product %u2013 these interlocks are SUPPOSED TO FAIL YOU, this is about MONEY, not saving lives or %u201Cgetting you back on the road safely.%u201D For a company celebrating 25 years of %u201Cproviding %u2018clients%u2019 with reliable technology%u201D you%u2019d think they would%u2019ve worked out the kinks. These kinks are money-making features for them and their real clients. Who is the LifeSafer client? Likely the states they vend in and the shops owners who service their product for monthly monitoring fees and continuous lockout servicing. I%u2019m very curious to see the breakdown of how the fees are allocated between LifeSafer, the service locations and the DMV.

The compliant and sober driver getting their life back on track is not the client to whom LifeSafer provides reliable and safe technology. The LifeSafer device RELIABLY FAILS DRIVERS regardless if they drink alcohol or not. While the DMV, or DOL in my case, requires a minimum consecutive 4-month period of no fails in order to green light the removal of the revenue-generating interlock system, there are obvious incentives for LifeSafer and its affiliates to not fix whatever %u201Cglitches%u201D are associated with their device. Out of fear of false positives and lockouts, I rarely drive - gratefully I work from home. However I haven%u2019t been able to go more than 60 days without a false positive fail, and I%u2019ve only driven 5 times in the past 2 months. Yesterday, Thanksgiving eve, was my second lockout for a false positive. At this rate, the LifeSafer device could be installed FOREVER, never meeting that 4-month no-fail requirement by the state. No joke.

I no longer drink and haven%u2019t had a drop of alcohol since my one-and-only DUI 3 years ago. To meet the final requirement of my DUI, I had the interlock installed earlier this year in June. The device first failed me in August after having just a bite of a protein bar while moving across country. No LifeSafer rep, install tech or non-existent video ever %u201Ctrained%u201D me about some foods creating false positives, fails and lockouts. Only after a frustrating call to LifeSafer after this lockout did I learn about foods like pizza and another thing to avoid %u2013 using WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID. Are you kidding? Mouthwash and toothpaste I get, products containing yeast ok, but having a clear windshield is essential to safe driving, so the system failing sober drivers for cleaning their windshield WHILE DRIVING is the exact opposite of %u201Cadvanced and reliable technology%u201D let alone SAFETY.

Yesterday%u2019s false positive occurred out of nowhere, with no food or drink for hours, no windshield wiper fluid, HOWEVER the timing is almost identical to my previous lockout %u2013 it happened within the 7 days leading up to my regular 60-day monitoring service appointment scheduled for next week. With this lockout occurring on Thanksgiving eve, my service location is closed for a long holiday weekend and it%u2019s likely I%u2019ll be paying more money for a service call to reset the device or a tow to the service location a few days from now. THIS IS A SCAM!

Getting drunk drivers off the road is an important cause that I agree with, but unscrupulous companies profiting off of sober drivers they purposely trap into paying more and more money with rigged interlock equipment is fraudulent. I%u2019ll be following up my review here with a BBB complaint, another call to my state, consulting an attorney, and I%u2019ll be searching for local newspapers and tv stations who may be interested in investigating these scammers, shamelessly operating under the guise of saving lives.
